This class will focus on young artists looking to build a portfolio for higher art education, whether it is for an art college, high school, vocational art related program, or to just level up as an artist. Professional award winning artist Sean Pryor will show students how to develop their artistic skills, focusing on a range of mediums from drawing to painting with several different mediums and even digital art in a fun and informative environment.   Acrylic pouring, collage, gelli printing and assemblage are some of the techniques that will be employed. Assorted surfaces including paper, wood, cardboard, canvas and even fabric will be used in the projects.

Nothing enhances your skills in drawing and painting more than working from a live model. I will take you through the steps of the old masters approach to painting and drawing from a model in long pose. Each week we will tackle value, color, edges, blending, and impasto.

Welcome to Acrylic and Oil Painting

Whether you are a beginner and have never painted or have had some experience in the past or simply want to upgrade your painting techniques this course will get you on the painting path. In depth information will be discussed on paints, painting mediums, brushes and surfaces. Learn to understand your paints and brushes and what they can do for you. Discover your own hand and style preference with tools you need to progress on your own level.

Similar techniques apply to both oils and acrylics. Acrylics now compete with oil paints in terms of the range of colors and transparent glazing colors. The class will teach a specific methods and easy to master techniques in either oils or acrylics or both.

I am on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts for over 35 years and have many awards for commercial and personal paintings. I am also teaching foundation painting at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Free prints for a 16 x 20 inch art panel will be provided to the class. These images are based on portraits, still life, botanical and landscapes as well as a variety of other subject. Students are also free to provide their own photographs for reference purposes.

Illustration and Comic Techniques

     WITH ARTIST/ILLUSTRATOR SEAN PRYOR

In the Illustration and Comic Technique course we go over the processes of creating a singular dynamic image or visual storytelling through creating several pages to form a visual narrative. Students will learn such skills as drawing anatomy, perspective, determining light sources, inking, and color theory, putting all these skills together to create a singular image or visual narrative that can give the creator a new way to express themselves as an artist.

For all ages 10 & up.

Sean’s career has landed him working with cultural luminaries such as Harvey Pekar, Blondie, and Weird Al Yankovic. Some of the work from those previously mentioned has gone on to in some cases be a NY Times instant best seller (Face It by Debbie Harry) and others receiving an Eisner nomination (The Illustrated Al by Alfred Yankovic). His art has appeared in such press outlets as the New York Times, Juxtapoz Magazine, and MTV.com
